PhD Student

I was born in a small village in the beautiful Fryslan, and moved to Groningen after I finished high school. In Groningen, I did a bachelor degree in physics followed up by a master degree in nanoscience. Although the nanoscience master was tended more towards semiconductor physics, I ventured more into the biology/chemical side of things during my research projects. During my final research project in my master degree I wound up in the chemical biology group, working on nanopore protein sequencing.

My PhD project is a direct continuation of the master project. I will be working on investigating further the capabilities of nanopores to be used in protein sequencing, focusing on a more physics point-of-view to better understand the signal we are reading from our nanopores, and hopefully be able to relate this back to the amino acid sequence.

During my time outside the lab, I enjoy swimming, cooking, reading, and watching (arthouse) films.
